New Orleans Saints

Based in New Orleans, Louisiana, the New Orleans Saints are members of the South Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League. The club was established in 1967 as an expansion team.

The Saints had played their home games at the Louisiana Superdome beginning in 1975. However, the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina forced the Saints to move their home stadium in 2005 to a variety of locations: the Giants Stadium; the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas; and the LSU’s Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The New Orleans team has won three division titles and has only appeared in one NFC Championship, in 2006, when it lost against the Chicago Bears 39-14. The Saints are one of five NFL that have never played in a Super Bowl.

During 2008, the Saints finished with an even .500 record at 8-8, giving them 11th place in the NFC without an option for playoffs. The Saints have high hopes for 2009 with new coach Sean Payton.

What can be said about a dream-like season for the New Orleans Saints, other than it will live forever in the memory of the fans and will be part of the NFL glorious moments. The Saints began the season with an unstoppable pace, winning 13 in a row to set a franchise record for the best start, and ended it up as the Super Bowl champions for the first time in their history. They also tied the Oakland Raiders record from 1968 of scoring at least 45 points in the first 2 games of the season, and with 510 points they became ninth in NFL history for the most-points in a season.
