San Francisco 49’ers

Based in San Francisco, California, the San Francisco 49ers are members of the West Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League. The team plays its home games in Candlestick Park.

The franchise was first established in 1946, but the team would not join the NFL until 1950.

The 49ers boast the second-most Super Bowl titles in the NFL with five, right behind the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team has also managed 5 conference championships and 17 division titles.

A historically successful franchise, the 49ers had particular success in the 1980s, when they claimed four of their five Super Bowl titles.

More recently, however, the 49ers have been less successful. The team won 5 of its final 7 games in 2008, ending the regular season with a 7-9 record and placing the 49ers at 12th in the NFC. San Francisco did not make the playoffs.

The 3-2 in the last 5 pretty much summarizes how irregular the 2009 season was for the San Francisco 49ers that ended up 8-8, despite being able to complete five games without allowing a touchdown, the highest in the year. The single-season 10 touchdowns franchise record was tied by running back Frank Gore, who also set a career-high with it. And he didn’t just stop there, as he also tied Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Perry’s 20 100-yard rushing games in franchise history. Tight end Vernon Davis also tied a record, but in NFL history with 13 touchdown receptions, the same as Antonio Gates in 2004.
