Minnesota Vikings
Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Minnesota Vikings are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League.
The franchise was established in 1961 as an expansion team, originally playing in the Metropolitan Stadium but later moving to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, where the Vikings presently play their home games.
The Vikings have won 1 NFL championship, 2 conference titles, and 7 division trophies. Though the team has played in 4 Super Bowl championship games, the Vikings have yet to win, setting an NFL record for Super Bowl losses.
The Vikings enjoyed a great season in 2008, ending the regular season with a 10-6 record and at 4th place in the NFC. The team also obtained the NFC North title after defeating the New York Giants 20-19; however, in the playoffs, the Minnesota team lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 26-14.
The Minnesota Vikings closed the 2009 season (12-4) at the gates of the Super Bowl, falling only 4 points short from it. The NFC Championship Round was lost 28-31 to the New Orleans Saints, team that ended up winning the title. Still the Vikings clinched their back-to-back division titles for the first time since 1977-78. Some of the franchise records set during the season where: quarterback Brett Favre’s 100+ passer rating in 10 games, running back Adrian Peterson’s 18 touchdowns in a single season and tight end Visanthe Shiancoe’s 11 touchdowns, which are the most for a TE. For the rookies wide receiver Percy Harvin’s 2,081 combined yards and 60 receptions also set a team rookie record.
