Washington Redskins

Founded in 1932 and based in Washington D.C., the Washington Redskins are members of the East Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League. The team plays its home games in the FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.

The Redskins are considered the second most valuable and wealthiest team in the NFL, just behind the Dallas Cowboys. In fact, the franchise has also broken the NFL’s record for single-season attendance for eight consecutive years.

In its long history, Washington has managed to attain two NFL championships and three Super Bowls, the last of which was won in 1991. Of the team’s five Super Bowl appearances, four took place under the leadership of head coach Joe Gibbs.

Overall, the Redskins have participated in 22 playoffs, of which they have won five conference titles and 12 division championships.

During the 2008 season, the Redskins broke even for the regular season, falling to last place in the NFC East and placing 10th in the NFC overall. The team did not qualify for the playoffs.

The Washington Redskins had a negative season in 2009, losing 12 of the 16 regular season games. 4 of those defeats came in the last 5 games of the years. They were the only team that placed two players in the top 10 in sacks, thanks to Andre Carter and rookie Brian Orakpo with 11 each. Also quarterback Jason Campbell had 1,000 completions that made him the fifth Redskin to do so.  And among active players, linebacker London Fletcher became the fourth player with most consecutive games, 151.
