But he started to play for the Vikings in 1992 when he was drafted in the 9 round. He started as the backup playing few games until the QB Warren Moon was injured in 1996, giving Brad the chance to start 8 of 12 games earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week twice and finishing third in the NFC with an 89.4 passer rating.
After a neck injury that Brad suffered in 1997, in 1998 he started the first two games for the Vikings where he passed for an incredible 747 yards, with a 65% completion rate, 11 yards per completion, for 7 touchdowns, but in the second game he was injured again forcing him to be out of action.

At the end of the 2004 season Johnson got out of the team and due to that he couldn’t find s a starting quarterback job he signed with the Minnesota Vikings to be the backup.

Johnson took the starter position and the team finished the season with 7-2 with six wins. Brad set a team record for lowest interception to attempt ratio (1.3%) which was the lowest in the NFL.
