Olympic Games History
- Beijing 2008
The Olympic Games first began in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece. Nowadays, it is an international multi-sport event consisting of summer and winter sporting events.
During the ancient times most participants were young males. The champion was presented with a crown of olive leaves, which is a symbol of hopefulness and harmony.
In 1896 the Modern Olympics began after being revitalized by a French nobleman named Pierre Frédy, and since the initial games in the summer of that same year the involvement within the event has amplified greatly to have competitors from almost all countries worldwide.
Starting in 1994, each season's games have been held every four years, or Olympiad, two years apart (summer and winter).
