Phil Hellmuth
Phillip J. Hellmuth Jr. was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Shortly after his University of Wisconsin graduation he began his career in poker; with ten World Series of Poker victories and more than fifty tournament titles later, Hellmuth is well on his way to cementing his poker legacy.
Hellmuth’s list of achievements began in 1989 at the age of 24 with his first World Series of Poker title, basically the youngest person to ever accomplish such an achievement. Since then Hellmuth has amassed dozens of major tournament wins internationally, including wins at the Late Night Poker in Great Britain and the World's Biggest Seven-card Stud Tournament in Austria.
In 2005 Hellmuth started by winning the first place ($500,000) at the Golden Nugget’s National Heads-Up Poker Tournament, other 64 of the world’s best poker players also participated in the tournament.
At the tournament, Hellmuth defeated Men "The Master" Nguyen, Paul Phillips, Huck Seed, Lyle Berman and Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari. In the final round, he defeated Chris "Jesus" Ferguson in three games. While trying to win it again in 2006, he lost in the first round to Chip Reese.
By the year 2006, Hellmuth’s total live tournament winnings exceed $5,500,000
