Poker Tournaments Important Facts
- The 2003 and 2004 WSOP champions, Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer, respectively, won their seats to the main event by winning online satellites.
- The two largest and most famous tournaments are the World Poker Tour championship event and the World Series of Poker, both held in Las Vegas.
- The most publicized European tournament is the Poker Million, which began in 2000 on Sky Sports.
- Atlantic City hosts The United States Poker Championship at the Trump Taj Mahal casino. The Plaza casino in Las Vegas hosts the Ultimate Poker Challenge, a series of regular tournaments that culminates in a $10,000 buy-in event.
- The main live poker tournament in Africa is the All Africa Poker Tournament hosted by the Piggs Peak Casino in Piggs Peak, Swaziland.
- The Crown Australian Poker Championship or the Aussie Millions is fast becoming one of the world's largest tournaments. In the 2007 tournament there were 747 entrants and a prize pool of AUD$7.47 Million.
- Since 1971 on all the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournaments have given cash prizes to the winners.
- In 1973 the five-card stud was added as a new event to the main no limit Texas Hold’em.
- S.H.O.E (an event played with 4 different games,(S)tud 7-card, (H)oldem. (O)maha 8/B nad (E)ight or better 7-card) also was played in the past along the chinese poker, five stud, etc. Winners got the prize and in addition a gold bracelet.
- Celebrities as Patrick Bruel, Jan Sorensen and Jennifer Tilly have won WSOP bracelets in the past.
- There will be 42 events at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) covering the Poker variants in 2006.
- H.O.R.S.E (rotation between different types of poker games) was played in the past and for this 2006 poker tournament is back.
