Ronaldinho’s professional football career started at Grêmio becoming the top scorer at an age of under-17 years in the World Championship in Egypt.
Ronaldinho’s debuted with the Brazilian National Team on June 26, 1999 and he scored his first goal against Venezuela during the Copa América. The Paris Saint Germinae football club broke the world record transfer fee in order to sign Ronhaldihno for a 5 year period in 2001. He started playing during the 01/02 season due to a protracted legal battle between Paris Saint Germaine and Grêmio over the transfer fee. Finally, Grêmio football club received $4.5 million.
During the 2002 World Cup Ronaldinho played an important roll helping Brazil win the Cup. Even though, he was overshadowed by country fellows Ronaldo and Rivaldo, his spectacular 35-meter lob scoring against England in the quarter-finals remains as an unforgettable highlight of the event.
Then in 2003, Spaniard Club Barcelona FC offered 27 million euros for a 5-year contract. Ronaldinho did not disappoint the European football fans, during his first season he took Barca to second place in the Spanish league. In 2004 more than 145 national team captains and 157 national team coaches voted Ronaldinho the FIFA World Footballer of the Year beating out Thierry Henry of Arsenal and Andrei Shevchenko of AC Milan.
Like his heroes before him, Ronaldinho took the prize while playing for Barcelona. He recently signed an improvement contract, increasing his buy-out clause to a reputed 150 million euros.
