São Paulo (SP)
São Paulo Futebol Clube, São Paulo FC or just São Paulo, is a very traditional Brazilian football team from São Paulo, which was founded on January 25, 1930, and Re-founded on December 16, 1935.
Their home stadium is Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo (Morumbi) and has a capacity of 80,000 spectators. Their uniform consists of a white shirt with two horizontal stripes, one red and one black, white shorts and socks.
The clubs first game was against Portuguesa Santista on January 25, 1936.
During 1940 and 1950 the club acquired Leônidas da Silva, from Flamengo, whom was one of the best players at the moment, and also brought other excelent players, like the Argentinian António Sastre, and the Brazilians Noronha, José Carlos Bauer, Zézé Procópio, Luizinho, Rui and Teixeirinha. All these players came to the formation of the famous team known as the Steam Roller, and led them to win five times the Paulista championship.
The 1950’s and 1960’s were not that successful for the club including factors as the construction of the stadium and Santos Pelé.
In 1970 after the conclusion of the construction of the stadium the club has been continuously rising and São Paulo is the current FIFA Club World Cup Champion and the current Brazilian Champion as of November 2006 and is the third most popular and successful football team in Brazil with several national and international titles along with having more than 13 million fans.
