Soccer Betting - CONCACAF Champions' Cup
History - Facts - Winners
Important Facts
The CONCACAF Champions' Cup is the annual international football competition held in the CONCACAF region. The competition welcomes the leading domestic club teams in the region.
Unfortunately, this particular competition has not gained the professional importance as it does not reward the clubs financially speaking as others do. Another significant problem is the dominance of three leagues – the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica - and the fact that smaller clubs have little chance of competing against these "giants".
As an additional incentive, in 2005 the champion of the competition also gained entry into the FIFA Club World Championship. Also the Champions Cup Runner-up will be one of the three CONCACAF invitees to the Copa Sudamericana.
In the 2005 tournament, eight teams competed - two from Mexico, two from the United States, three from Central America, and one from the Caribbean. Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica won the competition and participated in the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship.
As of 2006 the tournament was won by Club América and they will represent CONCACAF at the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup.
