- Gambrinus liga is the official name of the Czech football premier league. Gambrinus is also the name of the main sponsor - the Gambrinus Brewery from the Czech Republic.
- The Czech league has 16 teams and at the end of each season the top two teams in the League qualify for the UEFA Champions League, with the top team directly entering the group phase. The second placed team enters the competition at the third qualifying round and must win a two-legged knockout tie in order to enter the group phase. The team placed 3rd enters the UEFA Cup qualifying. The two lowest placed teams are relegated into the 2nd division of the Czech League.
- The history of the Czech Premier League started during the late 19th century. Until 1992 the league accepted the incorporation of teams from what is now Slovakia. The most famous Czech clubs are Slavia Prague, Sparta Prague, Banik Ostrava and FK Teplice.
