Kevin Kuranyi holds true to his family roots and upbringing. Born of a German father and a Panamanian mother, Kevin grew up in Rio de Janeiro, but opted to play for the German national team. At the age of 21, Kuranyi possesses patient ball handling skills and the lethal finish of an experienced striker.
He made his full team debut during the 2001-02 season going on to make 5 appearances that year in the Bundesliga. Then came his breakthrough the following season playing virtually every match (32), and his efficient scoring rate (15 goals) caught the eyes of national selectors during a season in which Stuttgart also finished runners-up in the German top flight behind Bayern Munich.
Germany and their fervent supporters discovered a new hero in 2003 in the form of Kevin Kuranyi, who has burst out as a future source of goals for Rudi Voller's side.
Kuranyi made his debut for Germany’s national team during the 2004 Eurocup qualifications against Lithuania. In his third appearance, the young striker netted Germany's final qualifying goal in their 3-0 rout of Iceland.
Kuranyi considered the man with three passports would do well to look to his fellow young striker Miroslav Klose for counsel. Having been part of Germany's 2002 FIFA World Cup runners-up squad, Klose might be able to point Kuranyi towards goal. And if Kuranyi does half of the damage Klose did in Japan / South Korea, his first Eurocup would be considered a great success.
