This soccer team was first established eleven years ago in 1997. The Chicago Fire team is considered one of the most successful one in the Major League Soccer. It has achieved 4 US Open Cup titles besides its international presentations.

Early in 2007 the Chicago Fire signed the Mexican soccer star Cuauhtémoc Blanco until 2009; Blanco has been a real support for the team. That same season the team managed to get to the semi finals obtaining a fourth place in the East Conference.

Additionally, for the 2008 season the team acquired Polish forward Frankowski and there were talks with French winger Fabrice Pancrate for a possible transfer.

Others invited to training camp during the off season were: Nigerian Pius Ikedia and Mexican Jesus Mendoza.
During the season 2008, the Chicago Fire got to the Final of the Eastern Conference but lost against the Columbus Crew 2-1.

The current Chicago Head Coach is Frank Klopas who became part of the team in replacement of the Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Park.

Over the ten seasons of the team with the MLS, they have only missed the playoffs once (in 2004), reaching the semifinals four times and the final three times, including their only championship in the inaugural year of the league, in 1998.
