The CD Chivas USA is a United States soccer team based in Carson, California, which competes in the Major League Soccer. It was founded in 2004 due to an expansion of the league.
It was given the name of Chivas USA and shares the same colors (red, white, blue, and gold) with its parent Club Deportivo Guadalajara, one of the most followed teams in Mexico.
The team was created with the intention of attract Latin-American presence, and that was the main reason why California was chosen as the home of the new team, which plays in the new Home Depot Center stadium, sharing it with Los Angeles Galaxy.
The first season turned out to be disappointing; Chivas USA could not raise the bad play during the entire tournament and finished in last place, due to the bad quality of the players and being practically a new team.
For the following tournament (2006) the team was reinforced with the arrival of Ramón Ramírez and Francisco Palencia originating from Las Chivas de Guadalajara, besides Claudio Suarez, veteran of great quality and former player of the Guadalajara and this helped to improve the level of the team. Ramírez, Palencia and Bradley exited in 2007 but despite this, the team continued improving their game.
During the season 2007, Chivas finished at the top of the Western Conference and reached the MLS Cup playoffs. However, they lost in the Conference Semifinals to the Kansas City Wizards.
In the season 2008, the Chivas USA finished second in the West, reaching the playoffs for the third year in a row.
