The Columbus Crew is one of the Eastern Conference professional soccer teams. The club’s headquarters are located in Columbus, Ohio.
Throughout its short history the team has won four major trophies the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open the 2004 and 2008 Supporters' Shields Cup and the MLS Cup 2008. The team has 3 major support groups: "The Crew Supporters Union", "The Hudson Street Hooligans", and "La Turbina Amarilla".
The team has had several notable players who have made their professional entrance as part of the “Crew” amongst them we can mention: Thomas Dooley, Doctor Khumalo, Alejandro Moreno, Ian Woan, Brian McBride and Edson Buddle. Moreover, Guillermo Barros Schelotto signed for the Crew in 2007, and in 2008 had an MLS MVP winning season leading the Crew to the Supporter's Shield 2008 and MLS Cup 2008
By the end of the 2007 season the team did not participate in the qualifying rounds obtaining only the sixth place in the East Conference. However in the season 2008, things change completely as they managed to win the Eastern Conference Championship against the Chicago Fire 2-1 and later the MLS Cup Final against New York Red Bulls 3-1, to be the new champion of the league.
The team’s current Head Coach Robert Warzycha of is a former Polish soccer midfielder, who has spent seven seasons with the Columbus Crew. He was promoted to the head coach position this 2009 and he is expected to repeat the accomplishments of last year or even better results for this year’s campaign.
