The Houston Dynamo was funded at the end of 2005 as an expansion team of the MLS. Even though it was created with the players and coach of former team San Jose Earthquakes, they were considered a complete new franchise and their past history, name, logo and stats stayed in San Jose until they were reactivated in 2007.
The Dynamo began its own history in the MLS with success, winning back-to-back championships in their first two seasons in the league, defeating the New England Revolution in both occasions.
Beside their two MLS Cups, the team finished as runner-up in the MLS Supporters’ Shield 2008 and has also won several minor trophies over their first three years of existence.
During the season 2008, the two-time MLS champions finished in the 1st place of the West Conference and in 2nd place overall but lost in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
