Los Angeles Galaxy is one of the ten founders of the MLS beginning to play in 1996. Its first stadium was the historic Rose Bowl Stadium until moving in 2003 to its own stadium, the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Since the 2005 season, the Home Depot Center has been shared with its rival Chivas USA.
The team has won two MLS Cups, two US Open Cups, two MLS Supporters’ Shields and one CONCACAF Champions’ Cup, which makes them one of the more successful soccer teams in the United States. However, all these titles were obtained between 1997 and 2005 and after that year, the team has struggled to get back on their winning pace.
Nevertheless, even though has not won a title in the last few years, they made become the most profitable and popular team in the MLS due to the millionaire signing of the English superstar David Beckham in 2007, which has increased considerably the team’s attendance revenue.
The acquisition of the English player has also made them a highly criticized team, since even with him; they haven’t been able even to reach the playoffs in the last two seasons, finishing in the 5th and 6th place in the west during these two years.
Since August 2008, former New York Bulls and US National team coach, Bruce Arena, has been in charge of the LA team and will try to change the path of Galaxy to a successful one for this 2009 season.
