The San Jose Earthquakes is a soccer team based in San Jose, California, which joined the Major League Soccer in 1995, leaved in 2005 and returned in 2007.
The team is one of the 10 charter members of the league, and played under the name of San Jose Clash from 1995 to 1999. San Jose played in the first game of the MLS history, defeating the D.C. United 1-0.
The Earthquakes have managed to win the MLS Cup twice, in 2001 and 2003. And also won the MLS Supporters' Shield in 2005.
In December 2005, the franchise was put for sale. The players and the coach Dominic Kinnear were transferred to Houston, Texas, being named the Houston Dynamo.
On July 18, 2007, it was announced that the San Jose Earthquakes would play again in the 2008 season. |
