The Seattle Sounders FC is the newest franchise so far of the Major Soccer League, which began operations for this current season 2009, opening the season at home with a victory against the New York Bulls, 3-0. The attendance for the inaugural game of the team and the season was also a success for the new franchise since it was a complete sold out.
The team’s sponsors, signed for their first five years, are Microsoft and Xbox 360. They play their home games at the Qwest Field in Seattle, which is also home for the NFL team Seattle Seahawks.
The first player signed by the Sounders was 2007 USL First Division MVP and former USL Sounder Sébastien Le Toux. Some of the players in the current roster are Freddie Ljungberg, the goalkeeper Kasey Keller, the forward Fredy Montero and Brand Evans, just to mention some of them.
The team is headed by former LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew coach Sigi Schmid, who comes from a very successful season with the Crew in which they achieved the MLS Cup.
