Ruud van Nistelrooy
Place of Birth: Oss, North Brabant, Netherlands
Date of Birth: July 1st, 1976
Position: Striker
Clubs: FC Den Bosch, SC Heerenveen, PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United
In 1993 he started playing up-front after he joined FC Den Bosch. He moved to SC Heerenveen four years later. On Ruud's 22nd birthday, he signed for PSV Eindhoven for £4.2 million. He made his international debut for Holland on November 18th 1998 against Germany.
In May 1999, Ruud was the top goal scorer in the Dutch league. He had scored 31 goals. He was also voted Dutch Player of the Year and he came second in the European Golden Boot award.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy is an exceptional striker with an outstanding finish ability and excellent reflexes, often regarded one of the best strikers playing today, he is also a regular penalty taker, and has agility and balance for his height, which is often credited to his previous training in gymnastics.
Van Nistelrooy has a return of a goal every other game, scoring 25 times in 48 appearances. For Manchester United, he has scored 150 goals in 214 games as of April 1, 2006. Spanning his time at PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United, Van Nistelrooy has scored 46 goals in 55 UEFA Champions League matches an enviable return for any striker.
However, despite being the Barclays Premiership’s joint top scorer with 21 goals this season, Van Nistelrooy had to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench after being dropped for the Carling Cup final against Wigan Athletic. There are strong rumors that he may go to Spain or Italy.
