Important Facts
- There are 14 clubs in Allsvenskan and the season starts in April and ends in October.
- During the season each club plays the rest two different times, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 26 games.
- The Svenska Mästerskapet was the Swedish football cup held to decide the Swedish Champions between 1896 and 1925.
- At the end of each season the two lowest placed teams are relegated to Superettan and the top two teams from Superettan are promoted in their place.
- The winners of Allsvenskan qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and they enter the competition at the second qualifying round.
- The runner-up team qualifies for the UEFA Cup, and enters the competition at the first qualifying round. The third placed team enters the UEFA Intertoto Cup
- In 2004 at the beginning of the Royal League, the four top placed teams enter that tournament together among with four teams from Norway and Denmark.
