The Championships at Wimbledon 2009 will be held between June 22nd and July 5th 2009.

This is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, which takes place at Wimbledon, London, since 1877.
It is also the only Grand Slam played on grass courts.

In recent times, the master of the green courts of the All England Club has been the former World No. 1 Roger Federer, who took the Men’s Singles trophy on five consecutive years, from 2003 to 2007, until current No.1, Rafael Nadal, managed to take the trophy out of his hands last year on the most exciting Grand Slam final that has ever taken place in tennis history, which lasted nearly 5 hours.

This year, however, it is Federer who comes to Wimbledon after winning the French Open for the first time in his career after Nadal, four-time defending champion in the clay major, was eliminated early in the tournament.

In this way, whereas Federer is coming with renewed confidence to claim back what was his a year ago – not only the title but also his ranking position – Nadal is facing a difficult moment because he even announced on June 19th that he will have to withdraw from the tournament for problems in his knees that have been bothering him for some weeks now.

In addition, the Scottish Andy Murray, No. 3, is aiming to be the first British to win the Championships in the Open era after having improved his game considerably this year and recently winning his first ATP grass title at the Queen’s Club in London. The bookmakers are increasing the odds on the Briton, placing him right after the Swiss as one of the favorites to take the 2009 trophy.

So, now the odds have turned back mostly to Federer, but could the Briton be the surprise this season?
