The Phoenix Mercury team is the current WNBA League leader and defending champion as they managed to win both titles the conference and the championship in 2007.
The team is known for being one of the league pioneers back in the mid 1990’s and is the basketball team brother of the NBA Phoenix Suns.
The team’s overall record for the past 11 seasons shows 182 wins, 187 loses and a winning-loss percentage of .493. This includes three semi finals participation as well as the recent championship victory.
A few years after the creation of the team their situation began to decay due to a lack of preparation and strategy.
Therefore the team had to be completely revamped and brought a completely new staff with new talent such as the rookie star; Diana Taurasi who won the Rookie of the Year award in 2004.
Since the end of 2007 the former Seattle Supersonics basketball player, Corey Gaines, has been leading the Mercury. The team plays its home games at the US Airways Centre located in Phoenix, Arizona.
