The "Seleção" Brazil is one of the most successful teams in the history of the World Cup. The Brazilian team has won 5 World Cup titles and is the only country that has participated in every edition of the FIFA World Cup.

The Brazilian team arrives in South Africa with great pressure from its fans at home. Its outstanding performance has created a following that is very demanding and expects nothing less than a sixth World Cup title for Brazil.

The Brazilian team counts on talented players such as Kaka, who is the captain and winner of the Golden Ball; Robinho, who is the former star of Real Madrid and now a Manchester City player; and the globally recognized midfielders Maicon and Dani Alves, who play at Inter Milan and FC Barcelona respectively.

Qualifying Stage

The start of the qualifying stages was difficult for the Seleção, not so much because of its opponents but because fans demanded a lot from the team. After three 0-0 draws against Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia, the Brazilian crowd booed its home team, demanding better results, and the criticism in the media was intense. In 2009, the Brazilian team recovered the faith of its fans by crushing Uruguay 4-0 and then beating Argentina 3-1.

Brazil completed the qualifying stage in first place of the CONMEBOL, with nine victories, seven draws and two defeats.

Players

In the defense, the Brazilian squad will have Dani Alves (FC Barcelona), Lucio da Silva (Inter Milan), Thiago (AC Milan), Maicon and goalkeeper Julio Cesar (Inter Milan). In the middle of the field, the creative force will be Kaka (Real Madrid), who is not a favorite not only in Brazil, but around the globe. Leading the offense, Dunga will align Adriano (Flamenco) and Robinho (Manchester City).

Head Coach

Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, better known as Dunga, is a former player for various European leagues, as well as former member of the Brazilian national team. As a player on the Brazilian squad, Dunga achieved the World Cup championship in 1994. Now, 16 years later, as the head coach, Dunga hopes to give the same joy to his country once again.

Dunga has been in charge of the Brazilian team since August 2006. In his debut as head coach, Dunga had to battle against the harsh criticism due to his lack of experience, his defensive scheme, and the few players in the team’s offense. These critiques were gradually undermined by the team's victories: the American Cup Championship in 2007 and then its easy qualification to the South Africa World Cup.

Leading one of the world’s most competitive teams, whose followers expect only the best, Dunga has a great deal of responsibility under his shoulders.
