The England National team is coming to the World Cup with a formidable roster of players. This time they will give their best to leave behind their not-so-great performances in Euro Cup 2004 and the Germany World Cup in 2006.

South Africa represents a new opportunity to live up to the high expectations that have always been set upon the English team, and even, go ahead and conquer this international title. They are among the 5 favorite teams to in the odds to win the 2010 World Cup.

The team of the “three lions” now led by Coach Fabio Capello has been playing with a different attitude in the field. This coach has become a source of new expectations, and encouragement for the English team. Yet the important thing here is that Capello has come with a fresher tactical plan that has noticeably improved t the England’s squad play. As many have said, the conditions in South Africa and the creation of new scenarios can not be the excuse for the English’s team not performing at their best in the World Cup.

Qualifying Stage

The English National Team gained important experience while qualifying to the World Cup.  The team and the coaches’ critics had plenty of material to complain and pass judgment on. Among these the embarrassing defeats in Euro 2004 and the Germany World Cup in 2006. At that time the somewhat mediocre performance was blamed in the lack of maturity of the players and the coaches.

"The team of the Rose" was in a more healthy and favorable position for these playoffs then for those other events. Coach Capello has been encouraging his players. The team has high-hopes to win the World Cup.

With this motivation and desire they clashed the qualifying stages. They won 9 of their last 10 games in the qualifying stage. In its group they scored a total of 34 goals, the best record in the European area. With this anger and the ticket to the 2010 World Cup, England is ready for South Africa.

Players

Some recent injuries have forced the coach to make some important decisions in the tactical scheme. Without David Beckham and Michael Owen, Capello prepares the list of players carefully. As Capello said: “The most important thing is to appreciate the honor of wearing the shirt of your national team.”  Some of the names that stand out there for England are: the defender John Terry, the midfielder and new captain of the England squad, Steven Gerrard. Wayne Rooney, not only scores great goal, he also generates the passes so that his teammates can score as well. This team is ready to take on their rivals in one intense but hard road up to the top of the 2010 World Cup Tournament.

Head Coach

In 1991, Fabio Capello began his coaching career. The Italian has commanded the squads of AC Milan, AS Roma, Juventus, Real Madrid and now the national team of England.

He has won the Italian Super Cup, the UEFA Champions League, the European Super Cup, the Italian Serie A Championship and the Spanish La Liga Championship.

After been assigned as the new coach Capello structured some new professional ethics among his players and has strove to unify the team. Ideas like these are already giving great results to the team.
