Bayer Giants Leverkusen

The Bayer Giants is a BBL member, part of the Bayer Leverkusen sports club based in Leverkusen, Germany. Their home arena is Wilhelm Dopatka Halle, which is an indoor facility with a capacity for 3.500 people.

The Giants are considered the most successful club in Germany. Their first championship victory came along in 1970 when they defeated MTV Giessen.

Among the most recognized players that passed through the club are: Norbert Thimm, Achim Kuczmann, Thomas Deuster, Dieter Kuprella and John Ecker, among others. During the seasons of some of these players the team started to be called "the giants of the Rhine".

Between 1985 and 1996 the Giants reached every final round of the German championship, and won the title nine times, the last seven coming in a row; since 1996 the club hasn't win the title again. Also between that lucky phase they achieved 6 German Cups, title that haven't been able to get again either. However, they are still playing in the First League of the BBL and keep grabing top spots on the standings; as they did last season, when reached the third place of the final table.
