Is a basketball team, located in Cologne, Germany and plays in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
The club was first named Cologne 99ers when founded, back in 1999. In 2001 the RheinEnergie power company begin to sponsor the team, that consequently changed its name to RheinEnergie Köln, better known as RE Köln or REK. After almost 6 years the company supporting the club, which change its name again to Köln 99ers.
The Koln 99ers' home arena in the BBL is the GEW Energy Dome and for some special events they use the Kölnarena. Their local rivals are Bayer Giants Leverkusen and Telekom Baskets Bonn, and are some of the favorite encounters from the BBL; while the favorite ones in the German basketball are those against ALBA Berlin and Brose Baskets.
By January 2008 the team seemed to be having some financial problems, when they announced they were insolvent. But two months later they resolved the problem.
