Basketball Bundesliga - German League History
In Germany the BBL or Basketball Bundesliga is the top level club competition to choose the national champion.
In 1939 the first basketball league was organized. The LSV club won the first title. Then in 1966 the Basketball Bundesliga was created as a pro player league. Today, eighteen teams compete in the championship.
The team with the most title wins is the Bayer Giants Leverkusen, 14 championships total. Since 1997 ALBA Berlin has been the leading team with 7 titles total.
