General Information

• Back in 1932 G reece was one of the eight founding members of FIBA.

• The HEBA (or ESAKE in Greek) is the name of the professional Hellenic Basketball Association and its two major divisions are the A1 and A2.

• Since 1986, the national team has had a permanent presence in international tournaments, the U21, U19 and youth squads as well as world competitions.

• Due to the team’s failure in the Euro-basket 1999 and 2001, the team did not qualify for the Sydney Olympics and the 2002 World Championships.

• In 2004 the team took part at Olympic tournament as host, since the Games were held in Athens. Despite the Greek hopes for a medal, the team only managed a 5th position
