Maroussi Basketball Club is a Greek professional basketball club, member of the A1 Ethniki, which is the 1st division of the Greek League (HEBA).
The team was founded in 1950 in Maroussi, at the Northeast side of Athens. Even though the team was founded just a little more than half a century ago, its sponsor athletic association was founded 1896, which makes them the third oldest sports club in Greece.
Maroussi is very popular and among the players it's seen as a great team to play for. Although they had a bad streak around the 80s and 90s, in which it seamed to be impossible for the club to leave the lower leagues and climb up to the A1, they finally achieved in 1998, when they won the promotion from A2.
Definitively, 2001 has been the best year for Costa Coffee, since they won their first _and only until now_ european title, the Saporta Cup, achievement that only other 5 Greek clubs have gained. Since that season the club has reached the playoffs of the Greek Championship in every season.
The team has been really close to win another title several times, but they just haven't been able to complete the mission. In 2002 they wen to the final match for the Greek Cup, but couldn't defeat Olympiacos in a 74-66 result. Later, finished second in 2004 EuroCup, where UNICS Kazan beat them.
They also arrived to the A1 Championship finals in 2003/04 and 2004/05, but in both occasions they couldn't stop the powerful defending champion Panathinaikos BC, to whom lost as well in 2006, their second final in the Greek Cup.
There are always many espectations about this Athenian team, they have got several second places until know, it seems they could grab a first place at any time.
