Virtus Bologna is a prominent basketbal club wich returned to Italy's First Division for the 2005-06 season, after two years in the Second Division.

Virtus was founded as a professional basketball team in the 1920s and has won 15 national league titles in the basketball First Division of Italy and 8 Italian Cups. Also it is a recurrent participant in the Euroleague.

The club won the Euroleague in 1998 and in the 2001-02 season won the Italian League and Italian Cup titles. After these acomplishments, several key players of the team left to the NBA, as Manu Ginobili and Marko Jarić.
