17th Stage: Embrun L'Alpe-d'Huez, 210 km

The city where this stage begins, Embrun, is so far another ville étape inédite and will be the preliminary point of a mountain stage which is really made for the authentic climbers with the Col du Galibier (20,9 km at 5,6%), the Col de la Croix-de-Fer (29,2 km at 5,2%) and finally the close at the top of the world famous Alpe d'Huez (13,3 km at 8,6%) This is the last real chance for the riders to obtain the front in the overall placing before leaving the Alps, with the mount of the Galibier, the Croix de Fer and the final climb up the Alpe d’Huez. The race leaders will use the last cards in their hand to intend for the final conquest.

Embrun: was a participant host town in the fifteen stage.

L'Alpe d'Huez: Alpe d'Huez is a mountain pasture in the Central French Alps, located on the territory of the commune of Huez, in the Isère department. L’Alpe-d’Huez lies at 1,860 m, facing south, at the foot of Grandes Rousses massif. L’Alpe d'Huez is the most famous mountain climb in the Tour de France and it has hosted a stage finish almost every year since 1976. The Tour de France first finished a stage on l'Alpe d'Huez in 1952 and was won by cyclist Fausto Coppi. This year is the town’s 26th time at the Tour de France.
