18th Stage: Bourg d'Oisans Saint-Étienne, 197 km

Thursday 24 July, 2008

Once they left Le Bourg d'Oisans (at the foot of the Alpe d'Huez) this hilly stage will take the riders above a distance of 197 kilometres over the Col de Parménie and La Croix de Montvieux before they reach in Saint-Etienne. A few difficulties still remain through the hills of the Monts du Forez on the road to Saint-Etienne. And be careful for the end-of-the race exhaustion and extended breakaways which could generate tension, just possibly quaking up the overall positions.

Bourg d'Oisans: It is located in the Oisans region of the French Alps and it lies in the valley of the Romanche river, on the road from Grenoble to Briançon, and on the south side of the Col de la Croix de Fer. It is surrounded by several well-known mountain resorts, including Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes. Bourg d’ Oisans has been stage host for 19th times since 1952 and the last time being in 2006.

Saint-Etienne: is a city in the central eastern part and is the sixth largest urban district in France, 60 km (40 miles) southwest of Lyon. Located in the Rhône-Alpes area. Saint-Étienne is the capital of the Loire department and it is situated in the Massif Central. It lies in a privileged natural setting which includes the Pilat regional park, the Forez mountains and the Loire river canyons. Saint-Etienne has 43 towns and nearly 400,000 inhabitants. The town has been in the Tour de France as host stage 23th times.
