Tour de France 2008 - Stages Profiles

Back to Stages

19th Stage: Roanne Montluçon, 165,5 km

Friday 25 July, 2008

For the stage from Roanne (ville étape inédite) to Montluçon the riders who controlled to get through the Pyrenees and the Alps with any problems could come to take the show again and try to win this stage. The riders will get with tired legs but happy because they will got back in this somewhat flatter and faster-riding course across the Allier county.

Roanne: is a town and commune in east-central France in the Loire department, about 90km north-west of Lyon and it lies along the Loire River. Roanne is also situated at the crossroads of Auvergne, Burgundy and Lyon and it possesses a richly diversified architectural heritage. Roanne will participate for first time as a town host stage in the Tour de France.

Montlucon: is located in the heart of France and is the second largest city in Auvergne. However the capital is located in the much smaller commune of Moulins. Montlucon lies closer to the hedged farmland of Bourbonnais, with the Cher river flowing through. The city has 44,000 inhabitants. Montlucon has been five times stage town, the first one in 1953 and the most recent one in 2001.
