Brief History + Important Facts
It is a football club from Accrington in Lancashire, in the Northwest of England. The team was formed in 1891 and re-formed after the First World War as they entered the league in 1921.
In 1960 the team was relegated to Division Four because of economic difficulties. The team's name is often invoked as a symbol of British sport's legion
That same year the team retired to come back later in 1968 to play at a new grown, the Crown Ground. In 1995 Eric Whalley began to lead the club then in 1999 he appointed John Coleman as the manager.
In 2003 the team advanced to the Nationwide Conference, the highest league outside the Football League. Between 2003 and 2006 especially many things went on with the Accrington. First of all, they obtained the league status after 44 years, when they were promoted as champions of the Nationwide Conference on April 15 th, 2006 followed by a win of their first Carling Cup on August 21 st, 2006.
