Toulouse

The ancestor Toulouse FC was originally founded in 1937, but after some issues over time, the club sold its players and its place in French Division 1 to the Red Star Paris in 1967. However in 1970, the club was re-established with new management that had the idea of taking some players of Gascogne and ACE Mermoz-Bonnefoy to solidify the team.

During their first appearance in the season 1970-71, the team started playing at Ligue 2, although improving over the years and gaining promotion to Ligue 1 in 1982. Later on, the club obtained a qualification for participation in the UEFA Cup in 1984. The team had a very good season during 1986-87, when they finished in the 3rd place of the table and got a second UEFA Cup participation.

However in 1994, the team was relegated to Ligue 2 and after that, they were between divisions for some time. The club struggled thru financial problems during that time as well and were very close to losing their professional status in 2001. Nevertheless, they went back to L1 in 2003 and during the last 5 seasons they have managed to remain there, even having their first appearance in the UEFA Champions League in 2007, after finishing third in the first division standings.

Last season 2007-08, le Tef had to battle to avoid relegation during all the campaign and at the end they were saved by winning on the last game of the season over Valenciennes, 2-1; finishing in 17th place with a total of 42 points. For this season 2008-09, the panorama seems changed once again for the team as until the middle of the season, the team is placed in the top half of the table.
