Lille

Lille Olympique Sporting Club was founded in 1944 from the union of the Olympique Lillois and the SC Fives and they entered to the Ligue 2 during their first year. The club had considerable success after WWII, winning 2 league titles, finishing as runner-up four times and winning 5 national cups. However, they were often shrouded by their local rival, the RC Lens, which had more popularity and success.

Nevertheless in their recent history, after 3 seasons in Ligue 2, the club entered again in the
Ligue 1 in 2000 and their results have been better than those of their local rivals; they have appeared three times in the Champions League and won the Intertoto Cup in 2004. As well, they finished in the second position of the Ligue 1 table during season 2004-05 and in the third position the following season.

Throughout their history, Lille has participated in 49 seasons at Ligue 1 and 4 seasons at Ligue 2. Last campaign 2007-08, Lille ended in 7th place of the table with 57 points and a record of 13-7.
