The Bremen football club was created on 1899 with the name Fußballverein Werder. At the early days of the team, they had some regional success; however, the team reached their best level after its post-war reorganization.
They were one of the charter members of the Bundesliga and were considered one of the top teams of northern Germany.
Throughout the years Werder Bremen has won several German titles, not only in the Bundesliga but in the German Cup, German League Cup and German Supercup. Internationally, the team won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup in 1992 and the Intertoto Cup in 1998.
Last season 2007-08, Bremen finished in the second place of the Bundesliga table with 66 points and a record of 20 wins, 6 draws and 8 losses. With this position the team earned the pass to the UEFA Champions League.
For this current season, according to Manager Schaaf a big advantage for the team could be that the players know each other very well. The Brazilian Diego hopes to become a key player this season 2008-09, and even though the team does not have any new signings, Bremen belongs to the favourites’ group.
