Since 1909, the Borussia Dortmund has gained experience on local leagues, especially in the Gauliga before WWII.

The postwar era left the club dominating division 1 until entering the Bundesliga in 1962. After their pre-Bundesliga championships in mid-1950s, the team managed to win the German cup in 1965 and later in 1966, they also won the European Cup Winners Cup.

The teams’ financial problems put them in between division during the 70’s and 80’s, but with a great effort, the German Cup was welcomed in 1989.

During the 1990s, aiming for higher goals including runner ups in the UEFA Cup final in 1993, the club was able to sign elite contracts, which also aided to the UEFA Champions title in 1997.

More recently, during the season 2007-08, the team reached the final of the German Cup and the qualification to the UEFA Cup.

With Manager Jürgen Klopp, Dortmund has one of the most exciting attacking front lines in the League and with the signing of Robert Kovac, the team now looks more stable at the back, especially with his 4 year contract.

Klopp wants a top position for this 2008-09, and he relies on the team’s ability to really shake things up at the top, if they can be consistent on the early games.
