The merging of Kölner Ballspiel-Club 1901 and SpVgg Sülz 1907 gave birth to the FC Köln in 1948, and since the beginning they have focused in strong in standards and player formation.
In 1962 the team won their first German Championship; they have also won it twice more since then, in 1964 and 1978. As well, by 1983 the German Cup had passed in between their hands 4 times.
The team had very good times in the early years of the Bundesliga, however, during the 1990’s the team’s performance declined and they were relegated in 1998.
Afterwards the team was promoted and relegated again three more times.
Currently, they won their promotion last season finishing in the third position of the Second Bundesliga.
Manager Daum is aware of the many changes the club has undergone last 2007-08 season, especially the departure of striker Patrick will be an important miss.
Hondurian Suazo has returned to Antalyaspor, but FC has brought in the most expensive signing in club history, Brasilian Pedro Geromel, after first impressions a good investment.
