Bayer Leverkusen is a German sports club based in Leverkusen since 1904.
After its creation, the club focuses on future formation and tournaments, but it wasn’t until 1979-80 season that they finally played on the upper levels of the League and achieved their first title in the UEFA Cup in 1988.
After the creation of the Bundesliga in 1963, the team was forced to improve on the lower leagues in order to reach first division positions in between 1968 to 1980.
With many runner-ups from 1997 to 2002, they reached UEFA one more time, but came in second place once again. That same year the team made history because even though they did not reach the national championship, they reached the UEFA Champions League final and became the first club to accomplish this.
The season 2007-08 was classified as one of the worst ones ever for the club. Bayer Leverkusen was unable to reach their season goal, which was to qualify for the UEFA CUP; this situation left Coach Michael Skibbe out of the team by the end of that campaign.
Manager Bruno Labbadia’s season target is to qualify for Europe and if the team finds stability and important players stay free of injuries, UEFA qualifications seem very possible for 08-09.
