VfL Wolfsburg

The VfL Wolfsburg football club was founded in 1945.

During their first years, the team progressed slowly and played within the second football division for twelve years until the early 70’s.

The team was relegated to the third division and stayed there almost every year between the mid 1970’s and the early 1990’s; with exception of a couple of years they went back to the second division.

In 1997, Wolfsburg reached the Bundesliga and against early predictions, the team has managed to stay in the first division table since then, even reaching the Intertoto Cup qualification four times between 2000 and 2004.

Last season, in hands of the former Bayern Munich manager, Felix Magath, the team finished in the 5th position of the table, winning the pass to the UEFA Cup.

Wolfsburg is beginning this season with their sights firmly set on a coveted UEFA Cup place one again. Magath has managed to get a top quality team together, a mixture of experience and youth talent. If they get used to the fact and pressure that they're not outsiders, but one of the favorites they should end up in a good position this season.
