In 1946 the clubs Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria got merged, forming the club U.C. Sampdoria, which’s name reflects the merger.

During the 1980’s, the team was very successful, managing to win three Coppa Italia and one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in that era.

Since season 2003-04, the team has managed to remain between the middle and the top part of the table, with their best result being in the 2004-05 season when they ended in the fifth position.

The Blucerchiati finished the 2007-08 season in the sixth position of the table, with a record of 17 wins, 9 draws and 12 loses. That was enough to enter the UEFA Cup 2008-09.
