The RCD Mallorca was funded in 1916 and is the oldest club from the Balearic Islands. The team reached the top football division in Spain for the first time in 1960 and since then, it was relegated and promoted several times until the season 1996-97, in which the team gained their last promotion to La Liga and has remained there until now.

The biggest accomplishments the Bermellones have achieved have been winning the Spain Supercup in 1998 and the Spanish Cup in 2003. In European stages, the team has appeared three times in the UEFA Cup, twice in the UEFA Champions League and once in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

During season 2008-09, the team finished in the ninth position of the table.
