The PSV team was first founded in 1913 as a sport team for employees of the Philips electronics company. The company is still the sponsor of the team, which uses their logo in their jerseys.
From 1913 to these days, they have always focused on improvement and restoration, thus the effort paid its first awards in 1928, when they won the first Dutch League.
The clubs best era was the 1970’s since they managed to conquer many national titles and the UEFA Cup in 1978. The team also won a European Cup title in the season 1987-88. As well, PSV had a very respectable record in the Dutch League from the 1980’s to the beginning of the 21st century.
During Eredivisie season 2007-08, the team finished in the first position of the league and defended their championship title.
This season 2008-09 PSV is making its 13th Champions League attendance and their 40th in European competitions, now under new coach Huub Stevens.
During the past 12 appearances in the UEFA Champions League, the further the team has advanced was in the season 2004-05 when they reached the Semifinals. After that, they reached the Eight Finals in 2005-06 and the Quarterfinals in 2006-07, however, last season they were disqualified once again at the group stage.
