History

• The French Open or (Open de France) is part of the European Tour tournament
• The event was first established in 1906 and it is the oldest open in Europe being part of it since the early 1972
• As of the year 2000 the Fédération Française de Golf has improved the overall status of the event in order to make it more distinguished
• Since the new stipulations were applied the tournament has had no sponsorship title
• The general prize figure has increased from €865,000 in 1999 to €4,000,000 in 2006 which places the event at the very top of the European group not including the majors and the World Golf Championships which are U.S. based PGA Tour
• Currently, the event is played at the Le Golf National near Paris.
