The race first began in 1711 and its most important race is the Ascot Gold Cup which welcomes participants of four-years of age and above.

The race track distance covers 2 miles 4 furlongs or 4,023 meters and the winner purse is of £2,250,000.

In June 2005, while the Ascot Racecourse was closed for a structure redevelopment, the Royal Ascot was temporarily moved to York Racecourse.

The Ascot Gold Cup is part of the British Stayers’ Triple Crown, along with the Doncaster Cup and 2 miles Goodwood Cup.
