Lacrosse arrived to Finland officially in 2002, when the first team was founded in Helsinki.
In 2003 the Finnish Lacrosse Association was established to support the sports development in Finland as well as for foreign relations.
In the summers of 2003 and 2004 Helsinki Lacrosse Club has participated in Sweden’s 6-team league reaching fourth place in the league.
Finland’s Men National team took part and became winners for the first time in an international tournament in the Newcomer’s tournament in Salzburg
In the summer 2004 the Finnish men’s national team took part in the European Championship in the European city of Prague reaching a respectable eighth place.
In the summer 2005 the first ever lacrosse championship of Finland was played in Helsinki. Among the teams which participated four were from Helsinki and one from Turku.
The tournament was won by Helsinki, the oldest club in Finland.
In August 2005 the first ever Scandinavian Championship was also played in the North
During that same summer (2005) the Finnish women’s team started their international games in Denmark in the newcomer’s tournament being placed in 3 rd position.
