- The RBS Six Nations Championship, previously known as the Five Nations Championship, is an annual international rugby union competition held between six European sides: Ireland, Italy, Scotland, England, France, and Wales.
- The Five Nations Championship, with its predecessor the Home Championship, was the premier international rugby union tournament in the Northern Hemisphere.
- There is also a Women's Six Nations Championship which has traditionally featured Spain instead of Italy, but from 2007 on will include Italy at Spain's expense.
- For the 2007 tournament, Ireland, Triple Crown winners this season, will have a new home ground as the legendary Lansdowne Road undergoes some redevelopment.
- Italy will play 2006 champions France to open the 2007 Six Nations tournament after the schedule was officially released on Wednesday in England.
- The new Irish venue is the 82,000 capacity Croke Park and it will host Ireland's game with heavyweights France and England
- The 2007 tournament will feature two "Super Saturdays", in the third and fifth round of matches.
